History

1946 A Department in Silicate Chemistry is founded at Chalmers University of Technology.
1956 The department is reorganized and an independent research institute is formed – The Swedish Institute for Silicate Research.
1989 The Swedish Institute for Silicate Research changes its name to The Swedish Ceramic Institute (Svenska Keraminstitutet).
2001 The Swedish Ceramic Institute is reorganized and forms a limited liability company.

The name in English remains the same – Swedish Ceramic Institute – whereas the official name in Swedish is changed to Svenska Keraminstitutet AB.

2005 The activity within The Swedish Ceramic Institute is taken over by IVF Industrial Research and Development Corporation.  IVF is one of the material- and manufacturing industry institutes in the Swerea Group.
