On 9th and 10th October 2017, Swedish Care International participated in the World Health Organization (WHO) Mental Health Gap Action Programme Forum 2017 (mhGAP Forum 2017) in Geneva, Switzerland. mhGAP Forum is a two-day conference that aims to provide an opportunity for a diverse group of stakeholders to discuss a variety of themes, all related to the implementation of WHO’s Mental Health Action Plan 2013-2020. The conference also discusses specific commitments from partners towards implementing the Action Plan. Among the different themes that were discussed, dementia was a key topic this year.
At mhGAP 2017, WHO published its final draft of the Global Action Plan on the Public Health Response to Dementia (2017 – 2025). The global action plan aims to improve the lives of people with dementia, their carers and families, while decreasing the impact of dementia on them as well as on communities and countries. It covers seven action areas, that will form its underlying structural framework, and proposes actions and targets for member states, the Secretariat and international, regional and national partners.
